About

Franco Nuschese – restaurateur, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and loving father – was born in Minori, Italy, and now resides in Washington, DC. He is honored to have been recognized by the following organizations for his contributions to the community:

 

2003 – included on GQ’s list of the “20 Most Powerful People in Washington…That You’ve Never Heard Of.”

2003 – named to Washington Life’s “Men of Substance & Style”

2004 – honored by charitable organization Knock Out Abuse Against Women for his continued support

2005 – appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine

2006 – received the Award for Excellence in Business at the Sons of Italy Foundation’s National Education and Leadership gala

2007-2008 – co-chaired the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) galas in Washington, DC

2008 – received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Past honorees include six Presidents, as well as Nobel Prize winners and leaders of industry, education, the arts, sports and government.

2008 – hosted the 81st birthday lunch for Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, DC

2008 – joined the Board of Trustees of the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design

2008 – appointed Director of International Relations for the Robert C. Gallo Foundation for AIDS and Virus Research in Baltimore, MD

2010 – knighted “Commendatore dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” by the President of the Italian Republic

2011 – honored at the Citizens Association of Georgetown gala for making Cafe Milano a community asset

2011 – received the Starlight Children’s Foundation Community Star Award for contributing to the health and well-being of children and their families

2011 – appointed to the Board of Directors of International Diagnostic Solutions, which provides consultation and diagnostic services in the areas of autism, developmental delay, and special education

2011 – received the Outstanding Sponsorship Award from the National Council for the Promotion of Italian Language in American Schools (COPILAS)

2011 – chaired the highly successful gala for the Catholic Charities Spanish Catholic Center in Washington, DC

2012– elected Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the Order of Malta to Antigua & Barbuda

2013 – elected to the Global Virus Network’s Board of Directors

2013 – elected to The Atlantic Council’s Board of Directors

2014 – became a member of the Georgetown University Italian Research Institute Board of Advisers

2015 – received the Cafe Milano Award at the Children’s Ball from the Children’s National Health System

2015 – received the National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF) 40th Anniversary Award for Leadership and Service
